Q: Do harvested grey boards need to be finished?

We don't recommend adding any finish to these boards. The boards will continue to age and weather in outdoor applications or if exposed to direct sunlight indoors.

All of our harvested grey boards are made from Eastern hemlock.

Yes. Since the boards weather naturally, each piece is unique. Variations in grain, tone, and surface texture are part of the product's appeal.

We stock Harvested Grey in 1x6, 1x8, and 1x10 sizes and lengths from 6'-16.

Harvested Grey boards are a replicated reclaimed product aged to resemble our authentic Canadian grey boards.

Can be used for interior panelling or exterior siding applications.

Hemlock boards are sawn and brushed before being exposed to the elements for two years to develop a weathered appearance.

Aging Process

As authentic grey barn board becomes increasingly scarce, replicated reclaimed products have emerged to meet demand. Our harvested grey boards offer a high-quality alternative, made from Eastern white hemlock and mechanically aged to achieve the look and texture of genuine reclaimed wood.

Each board is resawn to create authentic saw marks on the face before being aggressively brushed to enhance surface texture. After machining, the boards are exposed to the elements in an open field for approximately two years, allowing them to naturally weather and develop a silver-grey colour.

Are the boards square edge or are they profiled?

Harvested grey boards come as square planks and can be installed for interior cladding as is. For exterior applications, we can mill the boards into a shiplap (or other) profile.
